THE 3 E'S: YOUR FRAMEWORK FOR SURVIVING DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
When I speak at conferences or consult with organisations, I'm frequently asked the same question: "What should we do about AI taking over our jobs?" My answer is always guided by what I call "The 3 E's Framework". It's a practical approach to not just surviving but thriving in the age of digital transformation.
1. Education
Ensure you keep yourself educated and updated
The AI landscape is evolving at breakneck speed. What was cutting-edge six months ago (even 6 weeks ago) is outdated today. Continuous learning isn't just beneficial, it's essential. This means:
- Setting aside dedicated time each week to catch up on new AI developments
- Following reliable sources for AI news and latest updates (like subscribing to this newsletter)
- Attending webinars, workshops, conferences and courses (like the ones listed at the end of this newsletter)
- Experiment and play with AI tools firsthand rather than just reading about them (try out some of our prompting tips for Claude Artifacts below)
The legal professionals who will thrive aren't necessarily those with the most experience, but those willing to adapt and learn. Stay curious!
2. Exploration
Discover new business opportunities and innovative ways of working
AI isn't just changing how we do our current work, it's creating entirely new possibilities.
- Experiment with AI tools to automate or find new ways of completing routine tasks. Find innovative ways for AI to assist you with more complex work, creative ideas and brainstorming.
- Look for new service offerings that combine your legal expertise with AI capabilities.
- Consider how AI might transform client interactions and service delivery.
- Discover how utilizing AI can assist you in playing your part in closing the access to justice gap.
- Embrace curiosity and playful experimentation. Some of the best innovations come from "what if" moments. Use AI outside of work to get to grips with its capabilities and potential use cases.
The legal industry won't remain static. Those who actively explore new possibilities will be positioned to lead rather than follow. Using AI is a highly tailored and customisable experience. Your favourite use case may be different to someone else's. The best way to find out is to play.
3. Empathy
Harness your potential and leverage your "human" advantage
As AI takes over some of our tasks, and work evolves, our distinctly human capabilities become more valuable:
- Emotional intelligence and empathy
- Building relationships, and client relationship management
- Ethical reasoning, judgment, creative problem solving, and critical thinking
- Understanding cultural nuances and unspoken needs
The future belongs not to those who resist AI but to those who leverage it while doubling down on their uniquely human strengths. Nothing can replace human to human connections.
AI FEATURE SPOTLIGHT
Claude's Artifacts: turning your ideas into reality without technical capabilities
Have you used Claude? It's another large language model. It's like ChatGPT's less popular cousin. Similar features, different personality, different strengths and weaknesses. Many people prefer using Claude for writing tasks. For example, I get Claude to assist me with parts of this newsletter even though I use ChatGPT for most of my other tasks. One of the useful features of Claude is its "Artifacts" capability.
What are Artifacts?
Artifacts are self-contained pieces of content that Claude can create during your conversation (for written tasks, it is similar to ChatGPT's Canvas feature). This feature allows Claude to create standalone documents and basic applications during a conversation. Perfect for legal professionals who need to draft, edit, and refine a content. These can include:
- Documents
- Code snippets
- Single page websites
- SVG images
- Interactive React components

Make a simple game using Claude
Every now and then my daughter wants to sit in my office chair and "work" on my computer. When I ask her what she wants to do when she's older she says the same work I do (without really knowing what that is). I usually open up a blank Pages and let her type in different colours.
She asked me to help her spell some words so she could type them out. She struggled to find a few letters on the keyboard (because QWERTY not ABC). So we went to Claude and asked it to create a game where she can learn where the letters are on the keyboard. Claude coded an Artifact for us in mere seconds.
We made some adjustments (of course changing the green to pink), adding in some rainbows and unicorns, and a few extra words. And now we have a personalised game that she can play to learn the letters on the keyboard. Created by us in mere seconds.
Me: Omg we are coding a game just for you in seconds!! 🤩
Her: Why is it taking so long ... 🫠
She was watching Claude code and asked me what it was doing. So I tried to explain coding to her and that all the writing she was seeing on the screen was the AI building the game for her (she's 5).
I asked her if she wants to learn to code like that when she grows up or whether she wants the AI to do it. She wants the AI to do it! It just gave me a little glimpse into the future. Personalised everything. On-demand and at your fingertips. Agents doing the heavy lifting for you.
You are only limited by your imagination because the tools are at your disposable with zero technical knowledge. They're calling it vibe coding.
If you have a young child try using Claude Artifacts to co-create a game with them. Hopefully they will be impressed (no guarantees!)

Breathwork timer
I'm busy with my Advanced Practitioner Course at Breathwork Africa. I've created a few tools to help time some breathwork exercises using Claude Artifacts. Try it out and let me know what you think:
- Square Breath - basic but powerful technique that can calm anxiety and reduce stress, the count is 4-4-4-4, which means inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, and hold for 4 seconds. You can repeat a few times, or for a few minutes.
- Balanced Breath - powerful technique that brings alignment between your heart and mind. Ideal breath is 5.5 seconds inhale, followed by 5.5 seconds exhale, no pause between breaths. However, you can start with shorter times if that is too long for you and work your way up. Continue for as long as you like, ideally for 5-20 minutes.
You can also do these breathwork practices without timers. I've bookmarked these on my computer browser and use them when ever needed throughout my day. For example, a few minutes before a meeting to calm nerves.
Create a quiz
If you're learning something new, try uploading your content and ask Claude to create a quiz to test your knowledge. Or ask it to create a quiz on any topic.
Here is a prompt to try:
"Can you create an interactive game to help me learn the risks of using generative AI tools. Make it 10 questions."
Here is the artifact I made using the prompt above.
What do you think about this use case? How would you use it?
Legal Use Cases
Ask Claude to create a specific document. For example, "Draft a privacy policy for a healthcare app". The content will be drafted in a separate window. You can request edits, updates and revisions to the document in the chat. Download the final version once you are satisfied.
Try these examples:
- Draft a contract clause that addresses AI liability
- Create a one-page client facing document explaining the application of POPIA to artificial intelligence
- Draft a social media post about 5 risks of using AI in legal practice
After you get the first draft in an Artifact, use the chat function to update and revise the draft. Try out a few different use cases. What do you think?
Here's an example of a plain language NDA with AI clauses.
Pro Tip:
Provide Claude with specific guidance about formatting, tone, and key points to include. Provide examples, or upload documents for context (where appropriate to do so). The more context you provide, the more tailored the Artifact will be to your needs.
